USJ-R Celebrates the ETEEAP Class of 2026 Commencement Exercises

There is a particular kind of quiet that settles over a graduation hall right before names start getting called. Everyone in the room knows what it took to get there, but for the University of San Jose-Recoletos ETEEAP Class of 2026, that quiet carried a little more weight than usual. These were not eighteen-year-olds finishing four straight years of college. These were working adults, many of them parents, many of them OFWs, who spent years proving in the field what they never got the chance to prove in a classroom.

Every graduate in that hall built their degree out of something else entirely: years of aggregate work experience, hard-won technical skill, and the discipline to sit through a rigorous panel assessment most traditional students never have to face.

USJ-R framed the day exactly right in its own message to the graduates, noting that through years of professional experience, perseverance, and commitment to lifelong learning, its ETEEAP graduates transformed their knowledge and skills into academic success. Under Republic Act No. 12124, the law that institutionalized the program nationwide, that transformation is a formal, assessed, and CHED-recognized process, not a shortcut.

From Baccalaureate Mass to formal conferment

The ceremony followed a structure familiar to anyone who has attended a Catholic university graduation, but with an extra layer of significance for this particular batch. The day opened with a Baccalaureate Mass, a moment of reflection before the formal proceedings began. From there, graduates moved into the Hooding Ceremony, where faculty members placed the academic hood over each candidate’s shoulders, a visible marker of the degree they were about to receive.

Only after those two milestones did the graduates take what USJ-R rightly called the final step in their academic journey: the formal conferment of degrees. For a traditional student, conferment closes out four years of lectures and exams. For an ETEEAP graduate, it closes out something longer and, in many ways, harder. It closes out years of balancing a job, a family, and a portfolio of evidence built to prove that the learning already happened, long before anyone called it a degree.

Neither of those names had the spotlight handed to them. They earned their degrees through the same portfolio evaluations, written exams, and panel interviews that every other ETEEAP candidate goes through. What USJ-R offers, again and again, is proof that an equivalency degree holds up against any measure you throw at it, including a national licensure exam.

The road every graduate walked to get here

Nobody wanders into an ETEEAP graduation by accident. Every candidate had to meet the same baseline qualifications set under Republic Act No. 12124 and its implementing rules: at least 23 years old at the time of application, a completed secondary education, and a minimum of five aggregate years of work experience directly related to the degree being pursued.

From there, the real work started. Deputized HEIs like USJ-R assess candidates through portfolio evaluation, written examinations, practical demonstrations, and an oral defense before a panel of internal and external assessors. Anyone with a gap between their demonstrated competence and the degree curriculum gets assigned competency enrichment work, sometimes through modular subjects, sometimes through flexible or blended learning, before they are cleared to graduate. What comes next for the Class of 2026

A conferred degree is not really the finish line for most ETEEAP graduates. It is the door that was closed before. Graduates of the program are qualified to sit for the appropriate licensure examination in their field, the same as any traditionally enrolled graduate, and from there the door opens further: promotions, salary adjustments, government service eligibility, and for some, the kind of result Engr.
